Dave Gluck Guitar and Lead Vocals
Growing up in Western Maine, Dave’s life was forever altered when, in 1989, a friend named Jim Frazier gave him cassette copies of two CDs: Jimmy Buffett’s Songs You Know by Heart and Jerry Jeff Walker’s Live from Gruene Hall. He was instantly hooked on Buffett’s fusion of beach and country music and Walker’s Texas folk-rock. He has since enjoyed 28 Buffett concerts and 10 Jerry Jeff shows. Dave was so inspired by the two that in 1994 he began playing guitar and singing to anyone who would listen, which at that point tallied a few faithful Maine Parrotheads and some angry neighbors.
Undaunted, Dave teamed up with college buddy Matt Fortuin to form the Calypso Cowboys in 1996. Together they began playing in public and became widely known for closing down bars. (No really, some bars in fact went out of business after they performed there. Some couldn’t close quickly enough and would actually catch fire and burn to the ground.)
Dave, as with Buffett of course, began playing guitar to “meet” lots of women. In the late 90’s, the plan had finally begun to work when in 1999; it came to an abrupt halt. Dave was hired to play a solo gig at a birthday party in Chelmsford, MA. He hit it off with the birthday girl and they immediately married four years later. Dave and wife Susan were joined by Theodore in 2005 and currently reside in Lyman, Maine.
Dave earned a B.A. in Economics and History in 1992 from Bowdoin College where he also semi-excelled for their 1991 New England Champion Rugby squad. Dave currently works as a Regional Director for the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association. (And yes, he has no intention of quitting his day-job!) Dave is a firm believer in Organ Donation and occasionally volunteers for the New England Organ Bank
(neob.org).
